Household

Let’s see whether your household bills can work harder.

There’s no pressure to switch. I’ll show you what I find, answer your questions, and leave the decision with you.

WhatsApp me about my bills

Message me on WhatsApp. A recent energy bill helps, but you don’t need to have it ready just to say hello. If you’ve just moved, we can start another way.

How it works

  1. Send me your bills on WhatsApp

A recent energy bill gives me the clearest picture. If you want me to look at broadband or mobiles too, send those bills as well. A clear photo or PDF is fine. Please cover any bank details, card numbers or passwords before you send anything.

    Useful details to have

If you have them, broadband and mobile details help too — what you pay, when the contract ends, your speed or data, and whether a handset is included.

  2. I build the comparison

I enter the useful figures into my UW quote system and put the household comparison together. Running the quote doesn’t switch anything and it doesn’t commit you to joining.

  3. We go through it together

We can do it face to face or on a screen. I’ll show you what UW has come back with, explain the figures properly and answer your questions.

  4. We look at what’s worth bundling

I explain UW a bit like a Tesco meal deal. You can bundle energy, broadband, mobile phones, the cashback card and insurance. The more useful services you bring together, the more ways there can be to save across the household. We only include things that genuinely make sense for you. Gas and electricity count together as energy.

  5. I explain the cashback card

It’s a prepaid Mastercard that you top up in the UW app or online before you shop. UW currently has over 55 retail partners, with different rates up to 10%, plus 1% on eligible spending elsewhere. You use it in places you already shop, the cashback builds up through the month, and UW automatically takes it off your next monthly bill. The live rates are always shown in the app, and the card currently costs £3 a month.

  6. You decide in your own time

If you want to think about it, UW’s Save & Share option lets you take the quote away. Nothing switches while you’re deciding.

    How the switch works

If you go ahead, Utility Warehouse contacts the old energy supplier. Keep the old Direct Debit going until the final bill is settled. For broadband, you start with Utility Warehouse and Utility Warehouse contacts the provider you have now. Virgin Media is handled differently. Ofcom’s position is that any loss of service should not last longer than one working day. That isn’t a promise of no interruption at every address.

  7. I’m still here afterwards

You’ll have UW customer service, but you’ll also still have me. If something goes wrong, come back to me and I’ll help or escalate it.

Will you definitely save money?

No one can honestly promise that. My own household saved money, but some people are already on a deal I wouldn’t tell them to leave. If that’s you, I’ll say so.

That’s why I look at the whole household rather than shouting about one cheap rate. Sometimes the right answer is to change several things. Sometimes it’s to change nothing.

Things people usually ask me

Will the price stay fixed?

Only if you choose a fixed tariff, and only for what that tariff fixes. The energy regulator, Ofgem, sets a price cap that limits unit rates and standing charges on standard variable tariffs. It doesn’t cap the total bill. Ofgem resets it every three months. A fixed deal sits outside that cap. I’ll show you today’s price. I can’t promise a future saving.

Do I have to negotiate with my old supplier?

No. Utility Warehouse contacts your old energy supplier. On broadband, One Touch Switch, the process where the new provider contacts the old one, works the same way, apart from Virgin Media.

Is this just energy?

No. Energy is usually where we start, because it’s the largest part of the bill. Eligible broadband, mobile and cover can come onto one UW bill. I won’t add a product that doesn’t help your house.

What about exit fees?

There can be a credit of up to £400 towards early termination fees. It has conditions, and I’ll check the contracts before anyone assumes it applies.

The conditions

You need at least three qualifying services, you claim within the first six months, and you send the final supplier bill that shows the actual fee. The credit goes on the UW account. It isn’t a cheque to the old supplier. Qualifying services generally have to stay for 12 months, or the credit can be reclaimed. Mobile handset charges sit inside the £400 and have extra conditions. If you rent, there are further conditions.

Will the broadband drop out?

UW uses One Touch Switch, and Ofcom says a loss of service should not run past one working day. Virgin Media is handled differently. I won’t promise a seamless minute at every address.

What about my smart meter?

It depends on the meter’s generation and manufacturer. UW has a free upgrade route in Great Britain, and some tariffs need a compatible smart meter. I’ll check yours rather than guess.

What is the cashback card?

It’s a prepaid Mastercard that you top up before you spend. UW currently lists over 55 retail partners, offering different cashback rates up to 10%, plus 1% on eligible spending elsewhere. Your cashback builds during the month and is automatically taken off your next UW bill. The app shows the live retailer rates. The card currently costs £3 a month, and I’ll also show you any welcome credit available when we do the quote.

Can I think about it?

Yes. Utility Warehouse's Save & Share option lets you take the quote away. Nothing is switched while you do that.

What should I send first?

A recent energy statement. Broadband and mobile details if you have them. Don’t send card numbers, passwords or full bank details.

I’ve heard about £50 for referring a friend.

If you’re already a UW customer, and you’re not a Partner, you can refer an eligible homeowner with your personal link from UW My Account or the app. When they join with at least two qualifying services and the other conditions are met, you can each receive a £50 credit on your UW bills. It isn’t cash. Introducing someone without their link doesn’t qualify. Gas and electric together are one service category. I can help the friend sign up. I don’t receive that £50.

The conditions

You must be an existing UW customer, not a Partner. Your friend must be a new customer and homeowner at a different address, using your personal referral link. At least two qualifying bundle services must still be live when their second bill is processed, usually within 42 days. UW says the referring customer’s credit is applied within 60 days of sign-up, subject to services being live. Gas and electricity together count as one service category. A mobile SIM, and the other bundle rules, depend on the current terms. This is a bill credit, not cash.

Are you Utility Warehouse?

No. I’m Liam Rooke, an independent Partner. UW supplies the services and handles the switch. You get me to explain it, and I stay available.

What is the Price Pledge, in plain English?

It is Utility Warehouse's published like-for-like comparison, and it applies only when the conditions are met. The current terms are version 2, dated 6 July 2026. They can apply to a new residential customer who joins on or after 22 April 2024 with a cashback card and at least three eligible services, and keeps them. If the UW total is higher on a like-for-like comparison, the published remedy is an account credit.

The conditions

The services are energy, broadband, mobile SIM only, and Boiler & Home Cover, taken at sign-up or within 42 days. You keep at least three for 12 months, pay by Direct Debit, and keep the account in good standing. You claim after 12 months and before 15 months. UW compares the included charges after cashback and credits. The credit is double the difference, capped at the UW total. A successful claim gives 14 days to ask to leave the included services without UW exit fees. Handsets and routers sit outside that waiver.
